Waveguide Bellows

General Atomics fabricates flexible waveguides from a single piece of aluminum. The flexible regions have deep internal and external corrugations. They are precisely machined to hold a vacuum. Each waveguide bellows has a medium bandwidth, with the flexibility to be designed for dual frequency operation.

63.5 mm vacuum waveguide bellows with 3 cm axial motion. These use different deep corrugation depths to accommodate different frequencies from 100 to 170 GHz. Special couplings to mating waveguides allow longitudinal motion while preventing transverse motion that would cause unwanted mode conversion.
